UNDERSTAND TRAVEL INSURANCE BETTER

Nowadays, getting travel insurance is a must. With so many uncertainties around, it pays to be prepared for many situations. If you need more reasons to include one on your next trip, read it in our previous article “Never Travel Without Insurance.”

However, there are countless policies and coverage options available, and choosing the right one can be overwhelming.

Luckily, The Travel Club has got your back. We’ve rounded up more practical information to help you in finding the perfect travel insurance policy for your next trip.

Understanding Travel Insurance Policies

First things first, take your time with everything. Take the time to research and compare different insurance policies to find the one that suits your needs best.

Once you've identified the right policy, fill out the application form and provide accurate information to ensure your policy is valid. Also, ask for assistance if you need help with any part of the process.

Lastly, review and understand the policy terms and conditions. It's crucial, as you need to know what to do in case of an emergency, and what is covered and what is not. It's also wise to keep a copy of your policy with you throughout your trip.

Usual Coverage Exclusions

While travel insurance policies can cover a wide range of situations and risks, some things are typically excluded from coverage. Some exclusions in travel insurance policies include:

  1. Pre-existing Medical Conditions

Be aware that most travel insurance policies do not cover pre-existing medical conditions. But don't let that discourage you. There are still options that offer pre-existing condition waivers as long as you meet definite criteria. However, it's essential to check if any extra costs come with pre-existing condition coverage or if there are any limits on the coverage.

  1. Extreme Sports or Activities

If you're always looking for your next adrenaline rush, whether bungee jumping, skydiving, or mountain climbing, you have to take note that some travel insurance policies won't cover injuries or accidents during these extreme sports or activities. But policies can still vary, and some insurance companies may provide coverage for your favorite extreme sport, while others may not.

  1. Intentional or Criminal Acts

Travel insurance policies typically do not cover losses or damages resulting from intentional or criminal acts, such as theft or assault.

  1. Alcohol or Drug-related Incidents

Travel insurance policies may exclude coverage for injuries or accidents that occur while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. So while it's okay to have a good time on your trip, it is important to do so responsibly and stay aware of your surroundings.

  1. Travel to High-risk Countries or Regions

Some travel insurance policies may exclude coverage for travel to high-risk countries or regions, such as those experiencing war, civil unrest, or terrorism.

  1. Existing travel disruptions

If you’re planning to travel during or after a disruption (e.g. a hurricane, storm, or natural disaster), it's not too late to purchase travel insurance for your vacation. Still, it may be too late for insurance to cover you for potential losses caused by the storm or the disruption.

As a frequent traveler, you have to also invest in your safety. So, getting travel insurance for your future trips is a must. A good grasp of the details of your policies will go a long way for you.
